The OnRamp Fellowship, launched in January 2014, aims to address the “leaky pipeline” issue in law firms, legal departments, and banks by replenishing the number of mid to senior level women in the leadership ranks.
As the first “Returnship” ever launched in the legal profession, the Fellowship is a re-entry platform that matches experienced women lawyers returning to the profession with law firms for one-year, paid positions. Due to its overwhelming success, the Fellowship has expanded into legal departments and financial services firms. This unique experiential learning program gives returning women an opportunity to demonstrate their value in the marketplace while also broadening their experience, skills, and contacts. In turn, the organizations benefit by engaging with a previously untapped pool of high-performers and by increasing gender diversity in the profession.
Four major law firms – Sidley, Cooley, Baker Botts, and Hogan Lovells – signed on as the founding sponsors of the Fellowship. There are now 25 major law firms as well as Barclays’ Compliance Group, Amazon’s Legal Department, and HP Enterprise’s Legal Department participating. Women Legal Experts.com
In late 2016, the Lab will launch a website that highlights and profiles women lawyers who have recently been identified by Chambers and BTI as experts in their field of law. The goal is to promote these women to clients, conference organizers, press, and anyone else interested in engaging with top female lawyers.
Judicial Diversity Initiative (JDI)
The Lab is working with several states to source and recruit women and minority lawyers for open judgeships, and prepare them for the interview process. Our goal is to increase diversity on the bench. Special thanks to the Colorado Supreme Court Chief Justice’s Commission on the Legal Profession and the AJS Hunter Center for supporting the pilot effort.
